About Somalia
Somalia faces a devastating convergence of recurring drought, armed conflict, and mass displacement that has left millions on the brink of famine. Over 8 million people need humanitarian assistance, with 3.8 million internally displaced. The ongoing climate crisis has produced the worst drought in 40 years, killing livestock that pastoral communities depend on for survival and destroying crops across agricultural regions. Al-Shabaab insurgency continues to restrict humanitarian access in some areas, while clan conflicts displace communities already weakened by hunger. Mogadishu and other urban centres have seen massive influxes of drought-displaced families living in makeshift camps with no access to clean water, sanitation, or healthcare. Malnutrition rates among children are among the highest globally, and preventable diseases claim thousands of young lives annually. Our trusted local partners operate in Mogadishu, Puntland, and other accessible regions, prioritising drought-affected and displaced communities with food distributions, water access, and emergency relief.
Delivery Method: Distribution through trusted local partners in accessible areas, prioritizing drought-affected and displaced communities.
Why This Matters
A Ramadan food pack provides a complete month's supply of essential staples for an entire family. Each pack is carefully assembled to include culturally appropriate foods that sustain a family of 5-7 people throughout the blessed month.
What's Inside a Food Pack
- Rice (10kg) — the staple carbohydrate
- Flour (10kg) — for bread and chapatis
- Cooking oil (5 litres)
- Lentils and beans (5kg)
- Sugar (2kg) and tea
- Dates — for breaking the fast
- Salt, spices, and tomato paste
Contents are adjusted by region to match local dietary needs. Packs in South Asia include different items than those in East Africa. Every pack is delivered Hand2Hand with photographic proof.
The Ripple Effect
When a family receives a food pack, the mother no longer needs to choose between feeding her children and paying for medicine. Children can focus on their studies rather than going hungry. The entire household can observe Ramadan with dignity.
The drought killed our livestock. Without your help, we would have starved.
