When is Eid al-Adha 2026 in the UK?
Eid al-Adha 2026 is expected on Tuesday 26 May 2026 (evening) or Wednesday 27 May, depending on moon sighting. Most UK mosques will announce the confirmed date after the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah moon.
The Eid Prayer
The Eid prayer is performed in congregation, ideally in an open area (Eidgah) or large mosque. In the UK, many mosques offer multiple prayer times (typically 7:30am, 8:30am, 9:30am). It consists of two rakahs with additional Takbeerat.
Sunnah acts before Eid prayer: Ghusl (ritual bath), wearing your best clothes, applying perfume, and delaying eating until after the sacrifice (unlike Eid al-Fitr where one eats before prayer).
Performing Your Qurbani

Eid al-Adha is a time of joy, gratitude, and togetherness. Traditional UK celebrations include:
- Gathering with extended family for a meal
- Exchanging gifts, especially for children

- Sharing meat with neighbours (Muslim and non-Muslim)
- Giving charity and remembering those less fortunate
The Days of Tashreeq
The celebration continues for three days after Eid (11th–13th Dhul Hijjah). During these days, the Takbeer at-Tashreeq is recited after every obligatory prayer. Fasting is prohibited. Qurbani can still be performed on the 11th and 12th.
