Distribution in Syria
How Your Qurbani Helps in Syria
Syria: Over a Decade of Crisis
Syria's civil war, now in its 15th year, has displaced over 14 million people. Over 6.8 million remain internally displaced, while millions more have sought refuge in neighbouring countries. The UN estimates 16.7 million people inside Syria require humanitarian assistance.
The economic collapse has been catastrophic. The Syrian pound has lost over 99% of its pre-war value. Over 90% of the population lives below the poverty line, and 12.4 million people are food insecure.
Qurbani Operations in Syria
Muslims In Need operates across multiple governorates including Idlib, Aleppo, Hama, and the Damascus countryside. Our Syrian team has been operational since 2015. Qurbani is priced at £200 for sheep/goat and £1,400 for cow (1/7 share: £200).
How Your Qurbani Reaches Syrian Families
Our teams purchase animals from local farmers, supporting the agricultural economy. Meat is portioned into family packs (3-5 kg) and distributed directly to verified beneficiaries: internally displaced families, widows, orphan-headed households, and communities in recently affected areas.
The Eid Spirit in Syria
Despite years of conflict, Syrian families hold onto Eid traditions with remarkable resilience. Your Qurbani helps preserve these traditions and provides both nutrition and dignity to families who have lost so much.

Syria has now lived through fifteen years of conflict. Over 16.7 million Syrians need humanitarian assistance in 2026, the highest figure since the war began. The 2023 earthquake destroyed homes that families had only just rebuilt. The collapse of the Syrian pound means that a kilo of meat now costs more than most families earn in a week.
For displaced families in Idlib's tented settlements, in damaged buildings in Aleppo, in Homs neighbourhoods that still bear the scars of siege, fresh meat is a once-a-year luxury. Your Qurbani is often the only time of year these children eat lamb.
When you give your Qurbani in Syria with Muslims In Need, every penny of your £65 reaches Syria. Our 100% Donation Policy means there are no admin fees taken from your sacrifice. Operating costs are covered separately.
How your Qurbani is performed in Syria
Our Syria team has been operational since 2015 and works across multiple governorates: Aleppo, Idlib, Homs, rural Damascus, Latakia and Deir ez-Zor. Animals are sourced from local Syrian farmers, supporting fragile livelihoods that the war has battered for over a decade.
Every sheep is hand-selected and inspected for the Shariah requirements: minimum one year old, free of disqualifying defects (no blindness, no severe lameness, no missing more than one third of the ear or tail). Slaughter is performed by a Muslim butcher facing the qiblah with the recitation of "Bismillah, Allahu Akbar" on your behalf.
Meat is then divided and distributed Hand to Hand by our verified local team. We do not use third-party contractors. Priority families are: internally displaced Syrians in tented settlements, widows and orphaned children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

The verses and the hadith
Allah, Most High, says: "And to every nation We have appointed religious ceremonies, that they may mention the name of Allah over what He has provided for them of grazing animals." (Quran 22:34)
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "There is nothing dearer to Allah during the days of sacrifice than the sacrificing of animals. The sacrificed animal will come on the Day of Judgement with its horns, hair, and hooves." (Tirmidhi)
In a country where so much has been taken from people, your Qurbani returns something to them: the dignity of a Sunnah meal, shared with their children, on Eid morning.
