What the Scholars Say

Is Qurbani obligatory?
According to the Hanafi school, Qurbani is wajib (obligatory) on every sane Muslim adult who possesses wealth above the Nisab threshold. The Shafi, Maliki, and Hanbali schools consider it Sunnah mu'akkadah (strongly recommended). The safest position is to give if you can afford it.
Can I give Qurbani on behalf of loved ones who have passed away?
Yes. The majority of scholars agree that Qurbani can be offered on behalf of loved ones who have passed away - parents, relatives, spouses, or any Muslim. The reward reaches them as an act of charity. Use our Gift a Qurbani tool to dedicate your sacrifice.
When must the sacrifice be performed?
Qurbani must be performed during the three days of Eid al-Adha: 10th, 11th, and 12th of Dhul Hijjah (after the Eid prayer until before sunset on the 12th). In 2026, this is expected to be 26-28 May. Animals sacrificed outside this window do not count as Qurbani.

Aqeeqah - Celebrate Your Child's Birth

Frequently Asked Questions

When is Eid al-Adha 2026? +
Eid al-Adha 2026 is expected on the evening of Tuesday 26 May 2026, corresponding to 10 Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH. The exact date depends on moon sighting. Qurbani can be performed on 26th, 27th, or 28th May.
Is Qurbani compulsory? +
According to the Hanafi school, Qurbani is wajib (obligatory) on every sane Muslim adult who possesses wealth above the Nisab threshold (approx. £370 in 2026). According to the Shafi, Maliki, and Hanbali schools, it is Sunnah mu'akkadah. Use our Qurbani Calculator to check.
What is the cheapest Qurbani available? +
Somalia offers the most affordable Qurbani at £40 per sheep. India offers 1/7 cow shares from £14. View all prices on our comparison page.
Can I give Qurbani for a loved one? +
Yes. The majority of scholars agree that Qurbani can be offered on behalf of loved ones who have passed away - parents, relatives, spouses, or any Muslim. The reward reaches them. Use our Gift a Qurbani page.
What is a cow share? +
A cow can be shared among up to 7 people, each paying one-seventh. Each share counts as a complete Qurbani. This is based on the hadith of Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him). Read our full cow share guide.
Will I receive proof of my Qurbani? +
Yes. Every donor receives photographic feedback of their sacrifice being performed and the meat being distributed. Evidence is sent via email or WhatsApp after the sacrifice. See our evidence page.
How is the meat distributed? +
All meat is distributed Hand2Hand by our own local teams. We do not use contractors. Priority goes to orphans, widows, the elderly, people with disabilities, and displaced families. Each family is pre-verified.
Can I choose which country my Qurbani goes to? +
Yes. We offer Qurbani in 27 countries across Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and Europe. You select the country during checkout.
Is my donation eligible for Gift Aid? +
Yes. As a UK registered charity (No. 1158317), your Qurbani donation qualifies for Gift Aid, adding 25% to your gift at no extra cost to you.
What is the Ultimate Qurbani? +
The Ultimate Qurbani is our signature offering - 11 sheep sacrificed across 11 countries (Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, Chad, Pakistan, Madagascar, Mozambique, Tanzania, and India) plus 3 Eid gifts for orphans. Total: £1,000. One click, maximum impact. You receive photo feedback from all 11 countries. Ideal for businesses, families, or anyone seeking the greatest reward. Learn more.
How do I give Qurbani online in the UK? +
Choose your country, select sheep, goat or cow share, add to basket and pay securely with card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal. The whole process takes under two minutes and you receive an instant email confirmation followed by photo feedback after Eid.
What is the deadline to give Qurbani for 2026? +
Your Qurbani must be received before the slaughter is performed in your chosen country. To guarantee your sacrifice on the first day of Eid we recommend ordering by 23 May 2026. Late orders are accepted right up to the third day of Eid (28 May 2026 UK time) but availability is not guaranteed.
Is Qurbani Zakatable or separate from Zakat? +
Qurbani is a separate obligation from Zakat. You must pay both if eligible. Your Qurbani donation is not deducted from your Zakat, however the meat itself is distributed to Zakat-eligible recipients (the poor, orphans, widows, displaced families).
Which is the best Qurbani charity in the UK? +
The best Qurbani charity is one that is UK registered, operates a 100% donation policy, slaughters according to Shariah, distributes Hand to Hand to verified families, and provides photo evidence. Muslims In Need (Charity No. 1158317) meets all five criteria and is rated 4.9 out of 5 by over 2,500 donors.
Why are some Qurbani prices cheaper than others? +
Prices reflect the cost of livestock in each country, local logistics, and our 100% donation policy which means every penny goes to the sacrifice. Cheaper does not mean lower quality. Every animal across all 27 countries meets the same Shariah age, health and weight standards.
Can I give Qurbani for my whole family in one order? +
Yes. Use our Family Qurbani Bundle to give for every eligible adult in your household in a single transaction. You can mix countries and animals.
Can a wife give Qurbani for her husband? +
A wife can give a separate Qurbani on behalf of her husband, or give one jointly with the intention covering the household. Each sane adult who meets the Nisab is encouraged to give their own.
Do children need to give Qurbani? +
No. Qurbani is only obligatory or recommended on sane Muslim adults who meet the Nisab. Many parents choose to give a Qurbani in their children's names as a Sunnah and a teaching moment.
Can I do Qurbani for a newborn baby? +
A Qurbani in the name of a newborn is permissible and rewarding, however the specific Sunnah for a newborn is the Aqeeqah sacrifice (two animals for a boy, one for a girl) typically on the seventh day after birth.
What is Takbir e Tashreeq and when is it recited? +
Takbir e Tashreeq is the recitation "Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illa Allah, wa Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar wa lillahi al-hamd" said aloud after every fard prayer from Fajr on 9 Dhul Hijjah (Day of Arafah) until Asr on 13 Dhul Hijjah. In 2026 this runs from Monday 25 May to Friday 29 May UK time.
What is the niyyah (intention) for Qurbani? +
The niyyah is made in the heart at the time of ordering and again before slaughter. A common form is: "O Allah, this is from You and for You. Accept this Qurbani from me (or from [name])." For a deceased loved one add their name. We recite tasmiyah (Bismillah Allahu Akbar) at slaughter on your behalf.
Is Qurbani done abroad valid for UK Muslims? +
Yes. The classical scholars unanimously permit Qurbani to be performed in any country. Giving abroad is often preferred because the same amount feeds far more poor families and reaches communities with no other source of fresh meat all year.
What if I missed Qurbani last year (qadha)? +
According to the Hanafi school, if Qurbani was wajib on you and you missed it, you should give the value of a Qurbani as Sadaqah to the poor. You can do this through us at any time of year via our Sadaqah Sacrifice page.
Can I track or get a certificate for my Qurbani? +
Yes. Every Qurbani comes with an order reference, country-level distribution photo feedback, and an optional named gift certificate. View samples on our evidence page.
Are your animals halal certified and Shariah compliant? +
Every animal is hand-selected, meets the Shariah age and health requirements (sheep and goats at least one year old, cows at least two years old, free from disqualifying defects), and is slaughtered facing the qiblah with tasmiyah by a Muslim slaughterman.
How is Qurbani meat divided after slaughter? +
The classical Sunnah is to divide the meat into three parts: one third for your own family, one third for relatives and neighbours, one third for the poor. When you give your Qurbani abroad, your share and the relatives' share are also distributed to poor families on your behalf, maximising your reward.
What is the difference between Qurbani, Aqeeqah and Sadaqah Sacrifice? +
Qurbani is the Eid al-Adha sacrifice on 10-13 Dhul Hijjah. Aqeeqah is the Sunnah sacrifice for a newborn child. Sadaqah Sacrifice is a voluntary sacrifice given any time of year for gratitude, protection, or to fulfil a vow.
Can I give Qurbani in London, Birmingham or Manchester? +
You can give your Qurbani from anywhere in the UK including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leicester, Bradford, Luton, Glasgow, Cardiff, Sheffield, Nottingham, Newcastle and Coventry. The slaughter is performed in your chosen country abroad and meat is distributed to families there. Your local UK city is your point of donation, not slaughter.
Do you offer direct debit or daily payments for Qurbani? +
Yes. Our Give Daily, Secure Your Qurbani plan spreads the cost across the days remaining until Eid, charged daily by direct debit or card. Your Qurbani is reserved from day one and you can cancel anytime from your account.
How does Qurbani 2026 compare to last year on price? +
Our 2026 prices have stayed almost flat compared to 2025 thanks to long-standing partnerships with local farmers, despite global livestock inflation of 8 to 12 percent. We publish a year on year price archive on this page for full transparency.
Where does my Qurbani meat actually end up? +
Meat is distributed Hand to Hand by our verified local teams to pre-identified families: orphans, widows, the elderly, people with disabilities, and displaced families. Each family is logged. We do not use third-party contractors and you receive country-level photo feedback after Eid.
