Aqeeqah

Celebrate the birth of your child by offering an Aqeeqah sacrifice. A beautiful Sunnah that brings blessings to your family and feeds the poor.

What is Aqeeqah?

Aqeeqah is the sacrifice of an animal on the occasion of a child's birth. It is a Sunnah mu'akkadah (strongly recommended practice) of the Prophet (peace be upon him). The sacrifice is traditionally performed on the 7th day after the child's birth, but can be done at any time.

For a boy, two animals are sacrificed. For a girl, one animal. The meat is distributed to the poor, relatives, and neighbours.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Every child is pledged for his Aqeeqah, which is sacrificed on his behalf on the seventh day, and he is named on it, and his head is shaved." (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi)
