The insurgency in Cabo Delgado province, which began in 2017, has displaced nearly one million people. This predominantly Muslim region in northern Mozambique has been devastated by attacks that have destroyed villages, schools, and mosques. The crisis receives minimal international attention despite its severity.

Beyond the insurgency, Mozambique faces chronic poverty: over 60% of the population lives below the poverty line. The Muslim community (approximately 18% of the population) is concentrated in the coastal north, precisely the area most affected by the conflict.
