Sadaqah Sacrifice

A Sadaqah Sacrifice (Dhabihah) is a voluntary animal sacrifice offered at any time of the year. Unlike Qurbani, which is specific to the days of Eid al-Adha, a Sadaqah Sacrifice can be given as an act of gratitude, for protection from calamity, to fulfil a vow (nadhr), or as general charity. The meat is distributed to the poor in the same manner as Qurbani.

When to Give a Sadaqah Sacrifice

Unlike Qurbani, which is tied to the days of Eid al-Adha, a Sadaqah Sacrifice can be offered at any time of the year. Common occasions include:

  • Birth of a child: In addition to Aqeeqah, some families offer a voluntary sacrifice as gratitude.
  • Recovery from illness: As an act of thanks to Allah for restoring health.
  • Marriage: To seek blessings for the new union.
  • Fulfilment of a vow (nadhr): If one vowed to sacrifice an animal upon a certain outcome.
  • General Sadaqah: Simply to feed the poor and earn Allah's pleasure.

How It Differs from Qurbani

A Sadaqah Sacrifice follows the same Shariah requirements as Qurbani - the animal must meet minimum age and health standards, and slaughter must be performed by a Muslim with Bismillah. However, there is no time restriction and no Nisab requirement. Anyone can give a Sadaqah Sacrifice at any time.
